What Does a Foodie Do for Fun?

Yep, I spent my weekend at a food blogger's conference in San Francisco totally geeking out on all things food!

But I wasn't the only one. Nooooo, there were LOTS of us. Somewhere between 300-400 of us to be exact, and that represented just a tiny percentage of Foodbuzz Featured Publishers and community members. Foodbuzz is an online community of food bloggers and foodies that provides a social media platform for users around the world to interact and share their food experiences.

There were awesome food bloggers (back row left to right: Emily, Rosa)(front row left to right: Cate, Whitney, Ashlee, Amy, me, Mike):

There was great weather in the city:

There were great breakout sessions:

photography session

definitely buying these light bulbs!
fantastic demo sponsored by Alaska Seafood

There was great food and wine:

Amazing fish tacos

Bonny Doon Vineyard
provided absolutely amazing wine pairings with each course
Mission Minis cupcakes that spelled out Foodbuzz

There were fun times with Lew, Mike and Nate from Foodbuzz:

and Kathleen, Emily, me, Whitney, and Ashlee:

There were celebrity chefs like Jeffrey Saad..

Jeffrey Saad's beautiful wife, Kathleen, Emily, Jeffrey Saad, me, Ashlee, and Whitney:

It was so great to meet Jeffrey Saad from Next Food Network Star and he told us that he has a new show debuting on The Cooking Channel on Tuesday, Nov. 16th. Can't wait to check it out!

It was a fun-filled foodie weekend but it didn't end in San Francisco. From this event, I went straight to a pre-grand opening tour of one of Whole Foods latest locations set to open this Wednesday, Nov. 10th - Blossom Hill - in San Jose, CA.  One word... FABULOUS... but more on that tomorrow...

  4. It was so much fun! I hope you both decide to go next year - I will definitely go again!

I had so many 'favorite parts' it's hard to name just one and this may sound corny, but I really, really enjoyed meeting fellow food bloggers in person and hanging out with like-minded folks. Funny story - when the food would arrive, like at the gala dinner, everyone would bust our their camera before ever taking a bite and then tweet the photo of the food! and I mean EVERYONE! It was fun to see and be a part of.

The best photo tip I think I picked up was on lighting. When I get home I'm going to run out and buy that Sasco light bulb in the photo (or maybe order it online) and a lamp from Ikea called "Grono". Apparently, it's just a little lamp with a frosted or diffused shade that lets enough light through to be able to take photos when there's no natural light, which is always the huge challenge. Experiment with putting the light behind the food and to the side of the food to see what looks good to you.

I'm definitely going to experiment with it and I'll let you know. Also, going to try shooting in RAW and also using the macro setting on my camera. Lots to play with and if I figure anything out, I'll let you know!

  8. All of these wonderful recaps and incredible photos have made me miss home so much. I know exactly (just past Almaden Expressway, one of my old hangout areas) where the new Whole Foods will be on Blossom Hill in San Jose. I used to live not too far from different parts of Blossom Hill so I big time miss it.

Thrilled to see you had such a wonderful time! I hope I will eventually get to meet some of you in person. Come to Vegas again, would ya? We can meet for coffee! =)

  15. I stumbled upon your blog and it looks great. I was just wondering if there is an easier way to print your recipes. I've been copying and pasting but it takes awhile. Am I missing something?

  16. I'm looking forward to next year and seeing everyone again plus getting to meet those that couldn't make it this year!

Cari - I don't have the print feature yet on my blog but in the meantime you can highlight the area you want to print and then choose "print selection", or if you just click on the recipe you want and hit print. Just make sure you've clicked on the actual recipe first (not just scrolled down) or it will print everything (multiple recipes). Thanks so much for visiting and I'd love to hear back if you try any of the recipes!
